Vaccination Coverage for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka: With and Without Age Stratification on Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered Simulation
نویسنده
چکیده مقاله:
Background: Vaccination against COVID-19 is as a key solution to interrupt its spread. This study aimed to describe the vaccination coverage required to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka using a mathematical modeling strategy. Materials & Methods: This longitudinal study used age-stratified and unstratified Susceptible-Infectious-Recovered (SIR) models. Data on the population's age distribution were acquired from the census report of the Census and Statistics Center of Sri Lanka, consisting of groups: below 30, between 30-59, and over 60. Models with differential equations forecasted the spread of COVID-19 with vaccination based on parameter estimates and numerical simulation, assuming fixed population, infection, and recovery rates. Results: Simulations investigated how the susceptible, infected, and recovered populations varied according to the different vaccination coverages. According to the results, 75% vaccination coverage was required in the entire population of Sri Lanka to interrupt the transmission of COVID-19 completely. The age-stratified SIR model showed that over 90% of vaccination coverage in each age group (below 30, between 30-59, and over 60) was required to interrupt the transmission of COVID-19 in the country altogether. Conclusions: The number of COVID-19 infections in each age group of Sri Lanka reduces with the increase in vaccination coverage. As 75% vaccination coverage is required in Sri Lanka to interrupt the transmission of the disease, precise vaccination coverage measurement is essential to assess the successfulness of a vaccine campaign and control COVID-19.

Serum Levels of Minerals and Vitamins in Women of Reproductive Age with/without COVID-19: A Case-Control Study
Background and purpose: Vitamins and minerals play an important role in boosting the immune system, and their poor condition in the body leads to reduced resistance to infections such as COVID-19. In the present study, we aimed at examining and comparing the levels of minerals (iron, zinc, copper, and magnesium) and vitamins (B12, D) in women of reproductive age with COVID-19 and healthy women...

The aim of this study was to explore the associations between occupational stress measured through job demand control (JDC), and burnout among lawyers in Sri Lanka. The job demand-control model and the burnout model are among the most used theoretical frameworks that relate job characteristics to health and well-being of individuals. This study included 290 respondent lawyers practicing in the ...

Origin of the coronavirus was the seafood market of Wuhan city, Hubei province in China. The cases of someone suffering from COVID-19 can be traced back to the end of December 2019 in China. This is the most infectious disease and spread worldwide within three months after the first case reported. The World Health Organization renames Coronavirus as COVID-19. COVID-19 is the β-Coronavirus famil...
متن کاملMobile Phone–based Infectious Disease Surveillance System, Sri Lanka
Because many infectious diseases are emerging in animals in low-income and middle-income countries, surveillance of animal health in these areas may be needed for forecasting disease risks to humans. We present an overview of a mobile phone-based frontline surveillance system developed and implemented in Sri Lanka. Field veterinarians reported animal health information by using mobile phones. S...
متن کاملExact solution of a stochastic susceptible-infectious-recovered model.
The susceptible-infectious-recovered (SIR) model describes the evolution of three species of individuals which are subject to an infection and recovery mechanism. A susceptible S can become infectious with an infection rate beta by an infectious I type provided that both are in contact. The I type may recover with a rate gamma and from then on stay immune. Due to the coupling between the differ...
